隨筆

這張專輯是Billy Joel 成名第一張專輯。在這之前他有一張不成功的專輯，也因此惹了一個合約的官司，Billy Joel不得不遠避到加州去隱姓埋名，在一家酒吧內駐唱。後來因為他逐漸小有名氣，唱片公司他將當時的經驗、感受寫成這一首＜鋼琴師＞，爾後發行以這首歌同名的專輯唱片，一舉成名。

由 於我天生不耐吵雜的環境，而且實在沒有空到酒吧流連，因此對於台灣的酒吧文化我並不熟悉。酒吧跟咖啡廳一樣都是現在都會生活中不可或缺的空間。但是就電 影、文學或是流行歌曲裡所呈現的，酒吧一方面是喣喣嚷嚷的都會生活中的避風港，在疏離的現代生活中拉近人與人之間的距離，就另一方面而言，它其實還是都會 生活本身的縮影。在那樣的空間裡，持續放送的音樂與嘈雜的人聲，貼近的身體與酒精的撫慰，讓可能寂寞的夜晚有了生氣與意義。但是這樣看似「親密」的溝通與 人際關係，其迷人之處或許就在於其似親非親，若即若離的都會即時性。就如這首歌曲裡所描寫的：「在共飲一杯叫做寂寞的酒」。喜歡這種船過水無痕的一夜親的 都會男女，在辦公室裡、電腦前面悶了一天或是一個禮拜，會覺得酒吧的氣氛輕鬆怡人；但若是想要在裡頭填補生活的空虛，恐怕在宿醉後只有益發寂寞。

這 也許只是我這個不到酒吧去的人一廂情願的胡說八道，大家姑且聽之就算了。倒是Billy Joel看似隨意的歌詞其實頗能夠讓我們從酒吧看人生：有青春不再的老人希望在回味少壯時甜美的生活，有胸懷大志但一事無成的小說家，有但求安定棲身軍旅 的年輕人，有一心嚮往明星美夢卻不得不在酒吧度日的調酒師，還有為了生活周旋於醉翁之意不在酒的生意人之間的女侍。這些都是生活中隨處可見的生活百態，就 連這個看似冷眼旁觀的鋼琴師也是一樣，在生活的現實壓力下不得不暫時低頭賣唱。儘管如此，他的樂音與他的歌聲，在這樣一個週末夜的酒吧裡至少慰藉了一屋子 原本可能寂寞難耐的男女。對一個鋼琴師而言，那不就是值得欣慰的一種生活嗎？
